Our lockdown (no til no weed) garden.

Updated: Apr 7, 2021

Before we build our perminent raised beds we decided we needed to understand the growing environment a lot better. Clair planted seeds in pots and tubs recycled from water bottles on the veranda where we could keep an eye on them. We also checked out lots of local gardens on our street and in the neighbourhood.

As we had no water connection for a few months we collected portable water for the spring each walk walking to the fonte, filling our water bottles and carrying them back through the village.Doing this on a daily basis we ended up meeting most people on our street,

The soil on the farm hadn't been touched for 35 years, the olives, figs, Almonds and wild herbs gone feral. no herbicides no fertilisers. We decided to star the no til no weed as the dryness of the soil would make it very difficult to prepare for planting.

Baby carrots

Clairs first planting (March) was Lettuce and garlics, then onions

We extended the garden to plant carrots, peppers and some potatoes
